Before becoming a plumber, you must complete an apprenticeship to become qualified and registered with the relevant trade body. This is where you will learn all about the different aspects of plumbing, from installing pipes and fittings to fixing leaks and even doing basic electrical work. One of the most difficult parts of this apprenticeship is learning how to read blueprints and drawings so that you can understand what needs to be done when installing or repairing your home’s plumbing system. The next part of the apprenticeship for local plumbers involves working on-site for at least 6 months.
During these six months, you will be expected to carry out various tasks such as repairs, checking water meters, installing new appliances, and more.
You will also have to attend regular meetings with your supervisor, who will give you feedback on your performance and help you improve your skills. The final stage of the apprenticeship is completing a written exam that consists of multiple choice questions. Once you pass this exam, you can register with the relevant trade body and start practicing as a plumber.
